Why did legendary Pitmaster Ed Mitchell join True Made Foods?
Ed Mitchell, a North Carolina BBQ icon known for his mastery of whole-hog barbecue, joined True Made Foods because he shared the brand’s mission to bring real food back to the American table. Raised on fresh, farm-grown ingredients and deeply rooted in Southern cooking traditions, Ed had long been disheartened by the rise of overly processed, sugar-laden sauces dominating the BBQ world.
After being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, Ed became even more committed to cutting back on hidden sugars in everyday meals. Partnering with True Made Foods gave him the opportunity to create authentic BBQ sauces that stayed true to his heritage—rich in flavor but made with real vegetables and no added sugar. Together with founder Abe Kamarck, Ed helped launch the Pitmaster line to prove that clean ingredients and bold barbecue can coexist—redefining how we enjoy America’s most iconic flavors.
